First Asia/Pacific
Design Conference
Art Direction: Arthur Leydin
Design: Arthur Leydin
Date: 1988

This printed matter was designed by Arthur Leydin for the first Asia/Pacific Design Conference, an event he co-founded. Held in the remote Victorian town of Mildura, the conference was intended to stimulate a ‘dialogue on design in its many manifestations specifically related to countries within the Asia/Pacific region’. Aboriginal toas were a key element within Leydin’s identity, appropriated as ‘sign-posts to the Dreamtime … used 40,000 years ago … probably Australia’s first means of graphic communication’.
